Fall 2021 Dish It Up | Unapologetic: "Ancestors in the Making: Finding Balance & Restoration in Community Trauma Work"  
About the Speaker: Karla Aguilar Marquez’s (she/ella) commitment to eliminating sexual and relationship violence has led her to develop and implement various primary prevention strategies and survivor support efforts across several institutions, organizations and communities. Her advocacy and leadership are grounded in intersectionality and trauma-informed frameworks, ancestral knowledge and community wisdom. Authenticity, identity and community are critical parts of her activism, indigeneity, resilience and joy. She is an incoming first-gen Ph.D. student in the Higher Education & Organizational Change (HEOC) program at the UCLA School of Education & Information Studies and a Graduate Student Researcher at the UCLA Campus Assault Resource & Education (CARE) Office. Karla is a UC Riverside alum having graduated in Anthropology/Ethnic Studies and has a Masters in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Southern California concentrating in Community Organization, Planning and Administration (COPA).


This lecture is part of the Fall 2021 DISH IT UP series, "Unapologetic". Featuring a lineup of fiercely unapologetic women,the Women's Resources Center invites you to hear from individuals making change across career fields and communities. As the world continues to fight multitudes of oppression, our speakers will shine light on what authenticity, confidence, and truth can look like from a variety of experiences.    Funded by the Student Cultural Programming Fee.  FREE LUNCH will be available at this talk.
